Turning 21: 5 Lessons I’ve Learned

It’s been a week now since my 21st birthday, and I have to say, I’ve learned somethings. Things they don’t tell you that you feel. I feel…things. Here’s a list of what I’ve learned so far.

1. Beer is GROSS

Surely not ALL beer is gross. But I’ve never been that person who downs an entire beer then says, “WOOOOO MORE! BEER! YA!” If anyone actually even says that…It tastes like straight up booty butt. What is booty butt? You ask? It’s something gross. Uh, yeah.

2.Wine Taste Like Cherry Cough Syrup

(I HATE CHERRIES!!!) LOL Ok, Story time. When I was little, my dad used to give us this cherry cough medicine when we’d get sick. It was so gross, it actually SCARRED me for life. I know, first world probz. ANDDD TV shows have led me to believe that wine is sophisticated and sexy. What’s sexy about it, if I’m making this face while drinking it?!

3. BOYZ BUY DRINKS FOR YOU?!

Weird. I thought a boy’s way of flirting was making a singing vine for you then making a double chin face at the end…BUT THIS IS COOL TOO. While I was in Tempe, (ASU college land) I was meeting some of my mom’s co-workers at a hotel. YES, I WAS WITH MY MOM, BUT HEAR ME OUT FIRST!!! Ok, I can’t come back from that. But basically, the bartender heard I turned 21m and whipped out this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle drink for me. I hardly think he was flirting. But if he was,

4. Parents Look At You Differently

It’s all fun and games till you hit 21. The first thing my parents told me was, “okay…you’re 21 now! Officially a grown up!” Grown..u..p? Grown up? I’m grown up. Grown up I am. I can’t live with my parents 4evr?!!?! Okay, I get it…time to get my “ish” together!

5. I feel FREE!

No more age restrictions! No more, “Can I see your ID? Sorry, you’re not old enough.” “Come out with us!! Oh wait, you’re not 21 yet? Sorry…” “21 and OVER ONLY!!”  FINALLY! I feel like I’ve finally be let out of this tower called, “Underaged”. ๐Ÿ˜€

Holiday Faves!

This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Neutrogena and Latina Bloggers Connect
Hey guys! The holidays are here, which means family, food and holiday parties. (But mostly food…) and I LOVE to get dolled up for a party. When it comes to make-up, I’ve always been low maintenance. All I need is foundation, mascara, blush and eyeliner. I don’t like make up that clumps up, or clogs up my pores. If you’re the same, Neutrogena cosmetics are super duuuper simple. Here are some of my favorites for the holiday!

  • Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup(Natural Ivory 20) $13.99
  • Neutrogena Crease Proof Eye Shadow(Lasting Taupe)$7.99
  • Neutrogena Healthy Lengths Mascara  $8.99
  • Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick(Bright Berry)$8.99

I highly suggest the healthy liquid makeup if you want a light coverage. I love it because it doesn’t feel like I have any makeup on! Another biggie for me is eye shadow because I never know what looks good with my eyes, or even how to put it on.The Crease Proof Eyeshadow is just a stick of eyeshadow! All you do is rub it on your eyelid and BAM! You’ve got a subtle yet sessi (couldn’t say that word without giggling) look! If you wanted a heavier look, just reapply. Eyelashes are EVERYTHINGGGGGGGGGG. I seriously love Healthy Lengths mascara because it’s supposed to help your lashes grow longer, AND make them look bold (also bootiful). (It’s safe to wear if you have sensitive eyes, or wear contacts) Lastly, lips. If you’re going to a holiday party, you gotta rock either a bold red lip, or a cute flirty pink lip. MoistureSmooth Color Stick has a nice bright color, while still hydrating your lips. And you are gonna need that when that cute boy walks over to you with a mistletoe…*WINK WINK* hahahaha jk. That only happens in the movies.*ugly cries inside* At the end of your magical night, make sure to take off your makeup with some Makeup Removers!!

ANYWAY. These are my holiday favs because they make me feel pretty on the inside, and outside. Also because I know these products won’t ruin my face with harsh chemicals ๐Ÿ˜‰

MayaInTheMoment’s NYC Favs!

Hey guys! I just got back from NYC, and it was probably the best trip I have ever been on. (Mind you that this is my sixth or seventh year traveling to the Big Apple.) With that, here are my top 5 fav things I did on this New York City trip.

1. NYC in Fall
Those leaves, crisp air, and pumpkin spice lattes(do u even pumpkin spice latte?! jk) I honestly LOVE FALL. Especially in NYC. Since I’m from Arizona,(where the sun’s kisses are like satan’s farts in your face.Wait, what?) it was nice wear a jacket and scarf for once. Also, look how pretty Central Park is!!!

BoiFromIpanema playing in the leaves.

2. Central Park’s Bubble Man (Yes, BUBBLES!)
There’s this magical man in Central Park, around Bethesda Fountain. He literally has a huge net that he dips in a bucket containing magical bubble juice. Then, he waves it around and all the lil’ children gather to pop them. These bubbles are gigantic, and they were MY bubbles. (Finding Nemo reference, anyone?)

BOSS.

3. Eataly’s EVERYTHING.
Oh.My.Gawt. This place is heaven. Eataly, according to the internets: “is a high-end Italian food market/mall chain which first opened in Turin, Italy, in January 2007. A New York City Eataly opened in August 2010.”
The food is heaven. The atmosphere is heaven. The coffee is heaven. Even though it’s expensive, it’ll definitely be worth your money. I just…unffff.

4. Museum of Natural History
Yeah, nuff’ said.

5. FRIENDS!
My favorite part of traveling is experiencing it with friends. BoiFromIpanema, Jeshua, is probably my favorite travel partner. (Also, possibly my favorite person, because well, he’s amazing) You gotta have a ride or die when you travel. Some who will drag out to get late night pizza because it’s tradition. (Thanks for that, btw!) It’s also good to have local friends who can show you around. Ever since Vine, I’ve befriended so many wonderful people. I was happy I got to meet some of them in NYC!

Clockwise:
1. First night of meeting Vine friends.
2. Second night meeting Vine friends.(Us in Action!)
3. My beautiful cousin Christina!
4. BoiFromIpanema, my favorite travel partner<3

Overall, I always have SO much fun whenever I go to New York. If you’re planning on a vacation, I recommend this wonderful place. Bring comfortable shoes though. (Btw, Thank you Justice, for letting me borrow your winter clothes and boots. <3) I <3 New York. Every time I come back, I always feel like the possibles are endless. I feel so inspired to kick up my career, and to some day reside in the big city. Until next time, New York!

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY-My Advice!

I’m bringing back Motivational Monday! I found these pictures via Tumblr.
These are my tips and insight from my own experiences!

1. Don’t Take Things So Seriously.

I know you’re a hard worker and you’re probably working toward something that is going to benefit your life. But it is LIFE. There are so many wonderful things out there that should be worth taking the time to STOP and look at. Stop and smell the roses. Relax, and take a load off. Too much work will eventually make you into a crazed fire breathing dragon. Life will go on. Go to the beach. Go hang out with people who have fun. Break out of your routine. Do something silly. Shake your snow globe as my mom, the Crafty Chica would say!

 2. Love for the Right Reasons.

Loneliness can be a major pain in the heart. But that shouldn’t be the reason why you’re ready to date, or love again. Love is so sacred and powerful. Loving for the wrong reasons just leaves you more wounded than before. Love yourself first. Write a list of what you deserve, and what YOU could contribute. Love isn’t one sided and shouldn’t be all “take take take.” You’ll know when you’re ready.
3. Surround Yourself Wisely

Surround yourself with happy people. If anything, I’ve learned that happy people are so much more fun! haha I know everyone has their highs and lows. So surround yourself with someone who’ll lift you up, not drag you down. Surround yourself with people who inspire you and push you to be a better you. With that, inspire them to do the same. We’re all hustlin’ to be the best, and instead of fighting, let’s start building each other up!

These are my tips for Motivational Monday! See you next Monday!!!

Sobbing On A Glittered Floor

Hey guuuuys…It’s been awhile.
These past two months have been insanely AMAZING for me!

Me speaking on a social networking panel in Miami!

I traveled Miami, Florida to speak on a panel about promoting your music on social media for *Hispanicize*, had a week home, then back on the road to California for the 7th Annual Crafty Chica Cruise. After that I had a couple of hours at home (exhausted) and the very next morning I was on the road for my great grandma Carmen’s 80th birthday party in a beach house in San Diego with my family!

From the 7th annual CraftyChica Cruise 2013

Exciting, right?

Well, I’m home and reality greeted me with a huge slap in the face.
Finals are next week.
I’m behind on my blog and YouTube.
Negative people whom I kept pushing out of my life return.

Ugh. I know this seems completely stupid, but all of this stress came at me full force. So what do I do?

Cry.

Haha. I literally sat on my mom’s glittered floor in the art room, and sobbed. I think the main reason I did this was because I was couldn’t find the fabric glue for my latest craft project. “Maya. are you reaaaally crying about fabric glue right now?”  It really wasn’t the fabric glue. I was unmotivated with my life. I mean, I’m freaking twenty years old. I JUST got back from speaking on a panel in BEAUTIFUL Miami. I sailed the ocean with my favorite people and sang to them. Lastly, I spent a week with my family in San Diego. I have absolutely no reason to be unhappy. But I was. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for everything God gave me. I was just unhappy with myself. I just don’t know where I’m going, or what I should do. Or, if what I’m doing is the right path. How do you know if something is meant to be?

You don’t.

I was so focused on what I should be doing, instead of just doing. How was I going to figure out if I’m meant for something if I don’t even give my 100%? That, my friends is called self sabotage. Why do we do this? Limit ourselves on purpose? It’s a mystery to me, but I’m working on it. After I sobbed on that glittered floor, I picked myself up, and got my work done. I still have a buttload of work to do, but I’m taking it one step at time. As far as figuring out what I want to do? I’m just gonna continue doing. Whatever is meant to be, will be. Das it.

If any of you are stabbing yourself repeatedly with a knife leaving yourself to bleed out on the floor    self sabotaging yourself, here is a helpful website: http://topachievement.com/guyfinley.html

Here are MY tips for motivating yourself to get up and life your life to the fullest, especially during those times when you feel like crying on a glittered floor…
1. Get it out and let yourself cry like a baby for 15 minutes, then STOP. Crying feels good at first but doesn’t solve any problems, you’re wasting precious time that you could be making your life better!

2. Make an action list. Start with the easiest items first, so feel good about finishing them.

3. Give yourself the opportunity to try! Instead of thinking for the easy way out, break a sweat and challenge yourself to go above and beyond than you ever have before!

So I’ll end this emotional whiny rant with some pictures. Okay? <3
