This is a sponsored post for State Farm. However, the opinions and emotions are my own!
Hey guys!
So, on March 25th, I turned 22, and my blog turned 6! Watching my blog grow into what it is today has been amazing! Currently, I have a social media footprint of over 100k followers. That’s a lot of people. I LOVE creating content, connecting with you all, and making really hideous/silly faces via Vine and SnapChat.
However, I’ve realized that there is some responsibility having a following. I have a voice, and I want to use it for a good purpose, not just for entertainment. I feel like our generation gets wrapped up in whatever the media cooks up for us. We care so much about what a celeb is or isn’t doing, how we think the world is crumbling around us due to boy band drama, and if there’s ever going to be a Lizzie McGuire reunion!!!!!?!!??!?
With all jokes aside, I think we need to open our eyes and hearts to issues that are happening all around us.
With that, I’m so happy to tell you all that I’ve teamed up with State Farm Neighborhood Assist Program to encourage you to get involved in your community. As you probably already know, State Farm’s mission is to help people manage the risks of everyday life, recover from the unexpected and realize their dreams; they aim to get communities to a better state. Wouldn’t that be awesome if you were to affect someone’s life in this way?!
Here are some straight up amazing facts about how the works:
This program is made to connect with your community and allow you to help grow it! Through the program, State Farm invites people to submit a community cause about which they’re passionate about for a chance to win one of 40 $25,000 grants. Who narrows down the submissions? The Youth Advisory Board (YAB)! Which is comprised of 30 students, ages 17-20, from across the United States. Das rite, peeps your age! Once they’re narrowed down, the public (you) has a chance to vote on your fave cause through the Facebook app. Yes, AN APP! The top 200 causes covering education, community development and safety are voted on through the dedicated Facebook app, which helps to determine the 40 winners which in the past have included those who are helping homeless veterans, revitalizing parks, improving literacy and offering athletic programs for children with disabilities.
I then learned that State Farm has awarded $3 million dollars to 120 communities across North America to date. Is that amazing?
Now that I’ve shared how the program works, it has inspired me to get involved within my own community. I researched and found an organization called “Fresh Start Women“, which is an organization that gives women the resources to get back on their feet after going through different life struggles. I was really interested in this organization because their goal is to inspire and help women thrive. Which is what I aspire to do for my followers. I’m so excited to start volunteering! (Which you’ll see in the next post!)
